Artist:
Mr. Lee Wan is considered a controversial artist because back in 2016, he was commissioned by Dior to to display his photographic artwork at the Dior store located in Seoul, South Korea. The picture that was taken was that of a young Korean woman who is seen clutching a pink Dior handbag with the backdrop of a seedy part of town. Korean feminists became enraged because they stated that this photograph depicted this young Korean woman as a materialistic prostitute who is solely working for purchase an expensive handbag. The intention of Mr. Lee Wan's photograph was in protest of capitalism. This particular photograph drew such backlash that the phot was removed from the exhibition, thus squelching one's freedom of expression.
